Can I really buy a real arcade game?

arcadeshopper.com has placed many arcade games in new happy homes and businesses. We can locate your favorite game and get it shipped directly to your door.

We also sell real arcade cabinets that you can hook to your PC, Xbox, Playstation and more. Allowing you to have the arcade experience at home using emulation software, regular games, or what-ever you like!

Why do you charge for packing? How much is it again?

I charge for packing because I want the products to arrive in good condition and the only way I can ensure that they do arrive with the most protection possible is to purchase quality crates and boxes for the kits and to custom wrap and protect the assembled cabinets. This takes a lot of physical labor, quite a bit of time and of course money to buy the materials. Since some people would like to pick up their cabinet, I can’t fairly roll the cost of packing into the product price.

Kits are $75.00 for packing, assembled cabinets are $100.00 for packing and strapping to a pallet for shipping or $175 for building a wooden crate

How much is shipping for a cabinet kit?

Shipping runs approximately$135.00, there may be additional charges depending on:

  • If the delivery is to a residence there are additional charges assessed by the freight company for residential delivery
  • If a loading dock or fork-lift are not available to off-load the cabinet from the truck then a lift-gate charge is assessed by the freight company
  • If your address is in a rural area there may be additional charges assessed by the freight company

I include shipping insurance on shipments when available to cover any damages that may occur during the shipping process. You should carry your own shipping insurance to be safe. There is a $75 crating cost added to all cabinets shipped. I used to buy special boxes but they ended up costing the same as the crate and crates protect much better than cardboard.

What choices do I have for a Marquee?

If you have artwork you’d like on your marquee please send it to me and I’ll produce a custom marquee for your cabinet for a reasonable cost.

I also have a number of styles that you can choose from for your cabinet. They are in the artwork section of my online store.

Exactly what are the assembled dimensions of your cabinets?

How much is shipping for an assembled cabinet?

At this time I only offer the designs listed on the web site. You are welcome to modify them at your leisure when you take possession. I offer blank control panels without pre-cut holes for you to make your own custom designs.

Why should I buy your cabinets when I found one on Ebay for $XXX

No it is not the same thing. What you find on Ebay for $800 is not anything close to my cabinets. I only use all new parts, new computer-aided-design and computerized routed cabinets and all of my displays are VGA resolution or better. What you find for that price on Ebay are usually used junker cabinets that someone has converted to MAME. Standard resolution (CGA) monitors converted for use with MAME and substandard computers utilizing non-intel processors which may have incompatibilities with Windows, MAME and any other applications you may run.

My designs have better control panel layouts (in my opinion) and they offer more for your dollar than you get from buying that junk.

Frankly I’d much rather have a new system than something that’s jury-rigged together.

Can I get just the cabinet and add my own equipment to it?

Yes I sell bare-bones cabinets and kits. Check out the catalog for more information.

Will your cabinets fit the monitor I have here?

Sure if the monitor is 27″ or smaller and your putting it in my 27″ cabinet. If you are putting a monitor into the 19″ cabinet, 19″ is the maximum that will fit easily. .

My cabinets are designed to fit a 27″ “Universal Mount” arcade monitor by default.

With some work you may be able to jury-rig most any monitor to fit. However, you are on your own when it comes to figureing it all out.

I have had customers ask if production television sets would fit, and frankly I have no way to test everything out there. The ArcadeCenter line is designed specifically for a television set

A good rule of thumb is that the 27″ cabinet box is 27″ wide inside, and that’s your limit. Measure first!

Can I just use a TV set with your emulation cabinets?

The ArcadeCenter line is designed for a television set. My other emulation cabinets are designed for universal mount ARCADE monitors and any modification from that design is without support or warranty.

Can I buy parts from you to assemble myself

Of course, I’m happy to sell you any component separately. Email me with your request and I’ll respond with prices.

Can I use your emulation cabinet for my Xbox, Playstation, Dreamcast or Gamecube/WII?

All of my emulation cabinets are compatible with Xbox and PlayStation controller inputs with the optional adapters that are available at extra cost.

You can purchase the X-arcade option control panel which has adapters for all of those system’s and MORE. And the ArcadeCenter X includes an X-arcade and all adapters.

What other games can I run on your emulation cabinets?

You can load whatever you want in my cabinets. Since this is a Windows based PC it will run all the popular games available (depending on the video card requirements of course) and any emulation software out there including Daphne for laser disc emulation and console/computer emulation as well (MESS AND OTHERS) consult emulation based websites for more information on available emulators, my cabinets are compatible with them all.

The trackball and spinner controls act as the windows mouse inputs. The joystick and button controls are keyboard based inputs as far as the computer is concerned. This should work fine with any program out there that supports using a keyboard and mouse as a controller.

There are optional adaptors for Xbox and Playstation consoles for all of my emulation cabinets and the Arcadecenter X supports the gamecube and dreamcast consoles in addition to the PC, Xbox and Playstation.

What kind of warranty is included with your emulation cabinets?

The cabinets materials are covered with this unconditional guarantee. If you break part of the cabinet after it has arrived in good condition, I’m happy to sell you the replacement wood part that you broke. I purchase insurance during the shipping process to cover any damage that may occur due to handling or shipping issues. You should purchase your own insurance just to be safe.

Any electronic components are covered by their manufacturer’s warranties. For instance the Wells Gardner CRT is warrantied for a period of one year from the date of purchase.  I’m happy to help with any warranty repairs with phone/email support or at my repair depot in Tualatin Oregon for the first year without additional charge. After that my normal labor rate applies.

Additional parts to be provided by customer:

  • 1 1/4″ #8 Wood Screws
  • 5/8″ #6 Wood Screws
  • Quality Wood Glue
  • Additional support brackets

*Note: Early kits do not include #2 braces, they have extra #1 braces.
**Note: there are new monitor braces and a frame to support universal mount monitors. They replace the rearmost vertical braces.

Step 2 – Install support braces in both side panels (A)

  • To install braces, apply wood glue to underside, place within the pre-cut location and attach using power screwdriver with three #8 wood screws through the holes provided. Ensure that each brace is seated against the side of the pre-cut location firmly as shown in each photo. The logic here is that the edge of the wood rests against the edge of the cut for greater strength.
  • Attach support braces #1 to rear door locations on side panels (A) as shown.

    The rear door braces should be placed against the cut towards the rear of the cabinet.
  • Install monitor shelf braces in the pre-cut location towards the bottom of of the cabinet.
  • All cabinets made after 5/03 have a universal mount monitor frame, our horizontal mount monitor model has been discontinued and will not be supported.

    • 27″ universal mount monitor

      • Install monitor horizontal #1 braces in the precut locations under the vertical brace locations. Ensure that these braces are centered and braced against the edge closest to the BOTTOM of the cabinet. Install another set of braces (rotated 180 degress to offset the screw holes) on top of the first set. Effectively doubling the braces.
      • Install monitor vertical #3 braces in the precut locations torwards the TOP and REAR of the cabinet. These go in the rear vertical slots. Leave room at the bottom for the 2 monitor shelf panels to slide between these braces and the shelf braces below.
  • Install support braces #3 to lower location on side panels (A) as shown

    Ensure they are centered and placed against the top of the cut and away from the bottom of the side panel.as pictured.
  • Install support brace #1 to back panel F (with wood glue and #8 wood screws as shown

  • Install rear door lower assy brace on the bottom of the door

  • Allow glue to dry and then proceed.

Step 3 – Install Twist-lock connectors and main panels:

  • Install twist-lock connectors into holes on cabinet panels B, D, F, H, I as shown here

    ensure that the opening in each connector is lined up with the side of the panel.
  • Install twist-lock studs in both side panels (A) using #2 phillips screwdriver.

    The locations are easily identified as they are pre-drilled.
    You can use a power screwdriver but be careful not to over-tighten as they are likely to strip if too much torque is applied.
  • Seat and attach panels B, D, F, H, I to side panel and lock with twistlocks.

  • When assembling you insert a screwdriver into the twist lock and twist clockwise until tight to secure connector

  • After attaching the lower panels install the other side panel (A) to the other side of the panels and lock twist-lock connectors.

Step 4 – Install base and monitor shelf

  • Install base (K) with power screwdriver and #8 wood screws, ensure that screws are installed through the base and into side-support braces. You may also want to put glue between the base and the support braces before installing.

  • Install first monitor shelf to side-brackets using power screwdriver and #8 wood screws. The two monitor shelves should line up with the front edge of the rear vertical support bracket. Making a flush/flat surface for the frame to sit on.

    ** Ensure that the wood screws are installed through the shelf and into the side-support braces.

  • Install second shelf on top of first shelf and using power screwdriver attach with #8 wood screws through the shelf into the lower shelf.

  • Install universal mount frame in front of the shelves. The frame should be flat against the vertical brackets, and the front of both shelves. Resting on the horiz brackets. 

Step 5 – Install metal L brackets

  • L brackets are to be installed on each panel between all twist-lock connectors and on _all_ interior corners. Use 5/8″ #6 Wood Screws to secure the brackets to the cabinet.

  • Install marquee light board with L brackets above the front twist locks.

  • Additional braces are available for purchase if you require more than what is included with the kit.

What is the process used in making these cabinets?

Here are images and description of the process of prototyping the 27″ cabinet:

I started this project with the idea in mind that I would build mame cabinets for people who don’t just want some hack-job cabinet with spray panted sides. They were looking for a classy brand new cabinet and all new controls and parts. Complete with clean lines and edges and a good working set up for MAME and other emulators.

I based my first design on the cabinet below.

 

Here is an example of what my 27″ cabinet looks like. Yes I know this is a Simpsons cabinet, I based my design on the Konami 25″ cabinet. The basic shape is the same. My control panels are wider and contain more buttons (see below) and have the trackball installed in the center. The large monitor looks great in this style cabinet which is why I chose this design over the other models. It also allows for lots of room for controls.

MAME will allow for over 4000 games (more every update) to be played, so I chose to design my cabinet to support the most games possible without replacing the control panel. This is one of my prototype 27″ cabinets showing off some arcade games in action, you can see the cabinet taking shape..:

I found that the control panel layout below allowed for the most games without major problems with congestion and issues with games. Four joysticks, six buttons each (to support fighting games), a spinner for pong/breakout/tempest type games and a nice sized trackball with two buttons for the trackball.

Ok as with any production you discover flaws in your first machine. I found two biggies. And the control panel had to be redone, here’s the newest design and a complete cabinet! Now includes 4 start buttons and a spinner for pong, tempest, breakout and other spinner/paddle games.

I have rom files now what do I do with them?

You copy them into C:\mame\roms on the mame computer. Consult the offical MAME faq for more information.

Why don’t you distribute ROM files with your cabinets?

The license for MAME specifically states “Distribution of MAME on the same physical medium as illegal copies of ROM images is strictly forbidden. You are not allowed to distribute MAME in any form if you sell, advertise, or publicize illegal CD-ROMs or other media containing ROM images. This restriction applies even if you don’t make money, directly or indirectly, from those activities. You are allowed to make ROMs and MAME available for download on the same website, but only if you warn users about the ROMs’s copyright status, and make it clear that users must not download ROMs unless they are legally entitled to do so.” Also I am not legally authorized to distribute the ROM images so I of course DO NOT.
